Baltimore Magazine’s Trainer of the Year 2022
Matt Wilson's journey is a testament to resilience and determination. After graduating from Archbishop Curley, where he excelled in soccer, wrestling, and baseball, he earned scholarships for both soccer and baseball. Following a challenging Tommy John surgery, Matt persevered through rehab and walked on at Shepherd University, securing a scholarship. Despite setbacks, including a devastating injury during his junior year-where a dive for a baseball resulted in a shattered rotator cuff, bicep, and labrum-Matt committed to a rigorous 9-month rehab. He returned for his senior year, defying the odds to become an All-American right fielder. After college, Matt continued to pursue his passion for athletics, becoming the Strength and Conditioning Coach at Shepherd University. Following a successful season, he returned to his alma mater, Archbishop Curley, as the Strength Coach, hitting coach, and outfield coach.
Matt founded Do Work in 2008. Do Work started as a personal slogan motivating Matt to be the strongest version of himself and wanted to help others be the best version of themselves. His business all started with packing up weights and a barbell in his Accord and meeting with a client in public park. Every dollar he made went back into the business buying new equipment and eventually investing in a trailer allowing him to expand the amount of clients he could accommodate at one time. He now owns a 40ft trailer and hundreds of pieces of equipment allowing Matt to facilitate large scale bootcamps as well as offering an expansive selection to his 1 on 1 and small group clients.
Matt now offers a variety of services at Gold’s Gym Dundalk, MD which include 1 on 1 training, small group training, bootcamp classes. He also offers mobile bootcamp events, as well as, speed and conditioning training around the Baltimore area.
Matt’s mission is to bring small businesses and our community together through fitness.
